eLearn Hosting Migration - What Do I Do?
Q: Where are fall courses located?
A: Online class content for fall 2009 will not be on the 'OLD' system. After Labor Day, elearn.chemeketa.edu will automatically redirect all users to the 'NEW' hosted system at: https://chemeketa.blackboard.com
Q: How can I access the old system? How long will this access last?
A: After the redirect date, the only URL for you (or students working
on "incompletes") to access the OLD system will be:
http://webctnode2.chemeketa.edu:8080
Please save this address as you may need it in the near future.
None of your content on the OLD system will go away while the system remains. We intend to keep it running as long as necessary to ensure that all needed content is either migrated or archived.& Backups of past term sections will be made during the coming year; however, development shells may not be backed up automatically.
Q: What will this new site look like from the student perspective?
A: The NEW system will look and behave much like the old system, but the login page and headers will be a different color. There have been a few improvements behind the scenes, but the user experience will be the same. Since our elearn.chemeketa.edu address merely redirects to the Blackboard site, most browser bookmarks will have the chemeketa.blackboard.com URL.
Q: How and when will students access their fall term courses?
A: The process for student access to courses is the same as in the past. Students will have access to their courses on Thursday, September 24, 2009. They will still be given the elearn.chemeketa.edu address which will automatically redirect to the hosted server on the BlackBoard site. A benefit will be that enrollment updates will now be automatically done seven days a week. So even if a student registers on a Saturday morning, they will gain access to eLearn within a few hours.
Q: What are the plans for migrating content for future terms?
A: Content for your winter, spring, and summer 2010 sections will be brought over as needed starting in October. At that time, all instructors will receive an email similar to the one sent out in May requesting they fill out their needed content from the old system for the coming terms. It will be important that instructors include any needed content from 'development' sections as these will not be archived automatically like the term sections will be. Instructors can request that development sections be archived as well. Archived sections will be on DVD-ROM and can be restored into the new system if necessary, even after the old system is shut down (which may happen as early as winter term).
