Tips for Taking COMPASS

  • Plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early.
  • Bring picture I.D. and Social Security Number.
  • No visitors are allowed during testing.
  • Review the material in this booklet (especially) the sample questions).
  • Take your time while testing. Remember, COMPASS is not timed.
  • If you do not understand any of the test directions, ask the proctor!
  • Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours to complete the test battery.
  • Your test scores are printed immediately after testing, and you will need to allow an additional ½ hour to meet with a counselor or advisor to discuss the scores, course recommendations and future plans.
  • Store your COMPASS report in a safe location with other college-related documents. You may need it later.
